And just three weeks ago at WWDC they announced the M2 processor and the new MacBook Air, followed by also new 13" MacBook Pro equipped with the new processor. Few months later in March 2022 they unveiled M1 Ultra and the new Mac Studio computer. Just before our last FileMaker Performance Lab Meeting, in October 2021, Apple introduced MacBook Pro laptops with the new M1 Pro and M1 Max processors. If you want to dig deeper into it, make sure to join our next online meeting. For instance the standard test results from connecting to Mac Studio over LAN highlighted in the image above show just around 10% better overall score. Of course, the actual impact on your solution depends on how heavily you rely on the features that got better. As you can already verify yourself on the BenchTest homepage, FileMaker 19.5 scored better than 19.4 in almost all cases. So I performed the standard test in BenchTest on 16 different setups, to compare them to FileMaker 19.4 running on the same setup. Not all but some of these changes, such as server-side summary fields or bigger memory cache of the server-side scripting engine, should have impact on the BenchTest results, so I was really curious how big the impact will be. The Save a Copy as XML script step can now be used on server and runs much faster than on client there. ![]() ![]() New function JSONGetElementType can be used to quickly check for JSON validity without having the whole JSON parsed.Slowdown caused by server-side scripts working with containers on Ubuntu 18 was fixed.Memory leak of Web Publishing Engine using card windows was fixed.Nginx is used instead of Apache for web publishing on Ubuntu 20.FileMaker WebDirect: Performance with multiple concurrent connections has improved.Layout cascading style sheets ( CSS) are now cached in FileMaker Server (affects web publishing). You can now use parallel backups to reduce downtime and improve performance. The FileMaker Server scripting engine has an increased memory cache from 64 MB to 256 MB.Summary fields for hosted custom apps can now be processed by FileMaker Server. When focusing on performance, the following points deserve your attention: The update includes around 400 bug fixes and several useful new features. If you try BenchTest on your own and submit your test results, they will usually appear on the BenchTest homepage automatically within a minute or so. In addition to the tests I performed myself, 156 test results got submitted by the community since then with the total of 228 results published on our website at the time I am writing this. If you haven't attended the meeting, you can register to watch the whole recording now: During the meeting I revealed the new version of BenchTest and explained how you can use it yourself to test your own FileMaker configuration performance and compare it to others. ![]()
